Every life affected is a story of struggle and resilience, and these flames have claimed not only property, but also ten precious lives. As an active member of this community, my heart goes out to each of those affected.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Aumento_en_los_Alquileres\"><\/span>Increase in Rents<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Against this backdrop, demand for short-term rentals has skyrocketed. Despite Governor Gavin Newsom\u2019s declaration of a state of emergency, which limits rent increases to $100,000, we\u2019ve seen some landlords take advantage of the situation to raise prices alarmingly. In places like Venice, increases have reached an outrageous $64,000. Imagine rents skyrocketing to $1,000 per month in just a few hours. It\u2019s a scenario that challenges not only California law, but also our sense of fairness.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Cuestiones_Legales_y_Eticas\"><\/span>Legal and Ethical Issues<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>These excessive rent increases are illegal and morally questionable. However, the enforcement of these rules depends on tenants being encouraged to speak out and fight against these injustices. NGOs and experts have harshly criticized this opportunistic behavior that only aggravates the pain of those trying to rebuild their lives.
