Despite Governor Gavin Newsom’s declaration of a state of emergency, which limits rent increases to $100,000, we’ve seen some landlords take advantage of the situation to raise prices alarmingly. In places like Venice, increases have reached an outrageous $64,000. Imagine rents skyrocketing to $1,000 per month in just a few hours. It’s a scenario that challenges not only California law, but also our sense of fairness.

Legal and Ethical Issues

These excessive rent increases are illegal and morally questionable. However, the enforcement of these rules depends on tenants being encouraged to speak out and fight against these injustices. NGOs and experts have harshly criticized this opportunistic behavior that only aggravates the pain of those trying to rebuild their lives. As a real estate agent committed to transparency and ethics, I firmly believe that we must work together to protect the rights of everyone in our community.

Future of the Real Estate Market

With housing in short supply and demand rising, prices are expected to continue to rise, thereby intensifying the housing crisis in Los Angeles. This situation reflects a deeper problem in the American housing market, especially in disaster-prone areas like California. But, all is not lost.
